Horse Racing

Basil James

Inducted: 1967

Certainly the state's most distinguised native-born jockey, he rated high on the nation's charts in the 1930s and '40s. He reached the zenith of his riding career when he guided Alsab to victory in the 1942 Preakness just a week after riding the second-place horse in the Kentucky Derby.
